Tonestyler Sur Ma Blackbird

Yes - you can entirely remove the volume pot, and replace it with a master ToneStyler. This will serve to add some brightness and output level to the bass, as you are also removing the fixed 500K loading of the volume pot.

On a related note: your Bourns blend pot is a 250K type. This means that each pickup has the equivalent of one 250K volume control connected to it. Are you satisfied with the maximum brightness & level of your two pickups as-is? If you feel that a further signal boost is worth the effort, just swap out the current 250K pan/blend pot with the 500K/500K variety: http://store.stellartone.com/prostores/servlet/Detail?no=134 We sell these in both split-shaft and solid-shaft. These are the new "MN" linear taper, which offers the smoother transition/blend as you move out of the center "both pickups" detent. The older audio taper pan/blend pots changed the pickup mix so rapidly when moving out of the center detent, that they worked about as well as a three-way toggle switch. Anyway, if you want to try a 500K/500K pot, you can likely source one locally, from a parts supplier in Europe.

Your photo indicates that your ON-OFF switch is wired improperly. Although this works OK as-is, it's very simple to make it work perfectly. Presently, you are creating an open circuit to create silence - this can add noise at the amp, as the signal wire is open, but is not receiving any signal. The solution is to wire the switch as a "kill switch" - instead of breaking the signal circuit between the blend pot and the output jack, you just short it out to the ground. A shorted-out cable produces zero noise at the amp.

The correct wiring for a blend pot plus a master ToneStyler, plus kill switch is seen in this diagram: http://www.stellartone.com/files/2.2_J-Bass+ToneStyler.pdf All you are doing is skipping the illustrated volume pot, and replacing it with your on-off kill switch. The output of the blend pot connects to both the RED ToneStyler input wire, and one terminal of the kill switch (the diagram shows terminal #3 of the volume pot), plus the output jack's tip terminal (this wire is shown as connected to the volume pot terminal #2 on the diagram). The other terminal on the kill switch is then wired to a ground wire. Simple!

I hope this reply has answered your questions? If not, please write again if you have additional questions... Thanks again for your interest!

Best regards,

Don

@Nasgor : tu comprendras sans doute mieux : http://forum.onlybas...s-standard-usa/
